10. Focus on the language learner- Schmitt

 Reflection:

It is very important to focus in our learner's problems when teaching, some of them may have different cultures, reasons of getting motivated or even learning styles and we need to know all that information about them and some other aspects like: why they're learning a new language (some may need it for school or their job), if they're trully interested in learning (some parents make students take English classes when they don't even like them), etc.  All these aspects are important to understand and develop a good quality education and to help them as much as possible to complete their goals.

 Reflection:

Sociolinguistics is the study language and society, cultural aspects are of great importance in this branch of linguistics.  It includes standard, non-standard and codification aspects:  the standard forms are the well-known ones, the non-standard are sometimes discriminated by experts and called "poor" or "incorrect" varieties.

8. Psycholinguistics- Schmitt

 Reflection:

Psycholinguistics is the study of the process that occurs in our brains when learning a language. There is more bilingual people than monolingual in the world, this has woken up the scientific's doubts about their learning process.  Knowing more than one language opens your mind and gives you a chance to get to know more about other cultures, and of course, you will have more sources to look from when researching for something in special.

7. Second Language Acquisition- Schmitt

 Reflection:

Its the process of learning a language, people usually have a previous knowledge of it or another language dominated.  Its obvious that a lot of things can make this hard, for example:

-first language (students want to translate everything and this is not a good habit because they will get used to it and some words can't be translated).

-Their social and cultural aspects (we live near the US, that is why a lot of people can speak English, but maybe people that is living in the south part of Mexico won't, because they don't have the influence of the country near them).

-Previous knowledge (young people are used to listen to music or play videogames in English, remembering this vocabulary will help them a lot).

6. Corpus Linguistics- Schmitt

Reflection:
A corpus is a large collection of natural texts that have been collected from natural sources, this means they are not surveys or questionnaires, but scientifically based texts.  They are collections that tend to have thousands or even millions of words.

5. Pragmatics- Schmitt

Reflection:

“Pragmatics studies the factors that govern our choice of language in social interaction and the effects of our choice on others.”  It became a discipline over the past 30 years, it doesn't consider language as a product, but the relation between it, for example through messages and language uses.

4. Discourse Analysis- Schmitt

 Reflection:

Discourse analysis is consisted of the language that we use during our daily lives, for example, during my day I wake up, get ready for school and on my way I listen to the radio and I hear vocabulary and sometimes dabates of a certain topic, then, I get to school and we start taking subjects that help us develop this skill.

A discourse analyst studies long and short texts, is interested in real text, study language independently and typically study long passages of text.
